the House Oversight Committee has unearthed a key quote from the 50-page report on Pat Tillman - the former Arizona Cardinals star killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan under circumstances that the military labored to conceal from Tillman's family - and Jessica Lynch, who was caught up in some Iraq War mythmaking of her own.

Harper says Obama leak might have been illegal
~~~
Let's remember folks that harper has paid people like Luntz and Rove surrogates to design, dig and dish dirt on Liberal opponents. harper is currently mired in a mess of his own (he and his people bribed a dying man and his wife with an insurance policy) so I suspect he's trying to polish his image.
harper is a Canadian R-thug with extreme leanings on the far, far right. harper is one of the few right wingers and bush supporters left on the international political stage. He is trying to save face, no more, no less.
From the article;
"Prime Minister Stephen Harper says leaks from his government that rocked Barack Obama's U.S. presidential campaign were “blatantly unfair” — and may have been illegal.
Mr. Harper announced Wednesday that an internal security team has been called into the Foreign Affairs Department to investigate one of the leaks."
Court lifts lid on secret Arar details
"Newly declassified information shows that that Canadian agencies worked directly with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and also received information known to be likely derived from Syrian torture during a post-9/11 investigation that culminated in the Maher Arar scandal.
The disclosure follows a pitched legal battle by Mr. Justice Dennis O'Connor, who fought to make public 1,500 words that the Canadian federal government had excised from his four-volume report released last year.
A Federal Court decision resulted in the release of some of the information Thursday morning.
We make presidents crazy. They receive endless encomiums from friends and staff telling them of their brilliance, their courage, their foresight. "God sent you to lead us." And the authors of such statements aren't always or even usually sucking up. They mean it. They're excited, fervent, full of belief.
I was reading this
http://tinyurl.com/4ep5a post-election media recap from Alterman and McLeary and was struck by this quote;
As Todd Gitlin recently wrote in Mother Jones, "If ever there were a time for unbridled journalism, this would be it: terrorist mayhem, war, corporate scandal, ecological crisis, economic upheaval. Public passion and curiosity have been stoked. But the potential investigators have been, to a considerable degree, otherwise occupied. Historians will someday burrow among the musty artifacts of America's supercharged 24/7 news organizations--TV with its glammed-up sets, its convention skyboxes and satellite feeds; the well-fed correspondents on a first name basis with second-rate sources; the newsmagazines with their gloss, gossip, and fluff--and they will rub their eyes and marvel that a nation possessed of such an enormous industry ostensibly specializing in the gathering and distribution of facts could yet remain so befogged."
Too true.
I'm not American but I look to your country for the spirit of individualism, entrepreneurship and the good of people. I feel the same here at home in Canada and hope to see my neighbours change things for themselves and for the good of all humanity.
President Bill Clinton use to give me major positive vibes with his speeches. A vibe that I felt once again seeeing this fantastic video clip from the K/E campaign. The U2ish audio track, the seamed images of hope and understanding and the sheer joy of knowing that better times can be there tomorrow are in this nicely edited piece.
Nothing is perfect in this world but I am so glad (and not surprised) to see the K/E campaign end on a note of optimism.
Good luck Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards. Good luck my American friends.
W is NOT for Women
Sat Oct 16, 2004 at 06:32:09 AM PDT
First off, I only wish I could write as well as Mark Morford.
http://tinyurl.com/5cqqd
His article from Wednesday Oct. 13th is probably his most important this year. Via a shout out to Oprah, he calls out to the women of America to not let this election slip by and potentially gut their own rights. The article is informative and discusses an issue that needs to be screamed from the rooftops. The SCLM is currently wrapped in the Cheney family outrage and is giving the issues discussed by Morford zero play. Pretty sad.
The Zahns, Crowleys, Roberts', Kourics and et al of the media has failed to ask the Lauras, Theresas, Elizabeths, Lynnes and their daughters the pertinent questions that a male asks in Morford's piece.
Oprah endorsing K/E would be huge but she could do so much good for her large audience if she took up the challenge of continuing to discuss the real issues affecting security and soccer moms. Oprah, you know the media players, get on their shows and make your point louder.
Michael Moore links to Morford's article;
Its an important read and should be forwarded to any/all women you know. Might as well include the guys on your mailist as well.
