PRESIDENT BUSH: Mr. Secretary General, Mr. President, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen: Thank you for the honor of addressing this General Assembly. The American people respect the idealism that gave life to this organization. And we respect the men and women of the U.N., who stand for peace and human rights in every part of the world. Welcome to New York City, and welcome to the United States of America.
specifically the American people respect the UN, not me

Its been mentioned that the GOoPer convention will feature centrist ex-Terminators like Ahhnold but not wingnut exterminators like Delay. Now comes word from novak (I know) that the Repugnants will hide their agenda even deeper by not even (re)formulating their platform, much less even speak to what it's base wants to hear.
The meanstream right wing media made hay of the DNC's light on leftism discussions, so hopefully they'll scream even louder about their own inclusive party shucking the responsibility of plattform strategerizing.

The irreverent
(see satire) and important Moore was unjustly slagged during the Canadian federal election for sticking his nose where the Cons didn't want it. Too bad. Now some right wingnuts are looking to sue him. This will fall on deaf ears and fade away but hopefully MM can have some fun with this.
The key to the city is one thing, I say make Moore an honorary citizen.

BTW, the Cons lost, big time.
Also, when the international tally of F9/11's box office is announced, don't be surprised to see Canada at the top of the list.

The national Liberal convention has come and gone.
United we stand.
Highlights;
* A typically selfless farewell evening to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on Thursday (with very kind words from the great Bill Clinton). I'll add my own Merci Monsieur Chrétien. Bonus was the huge standing O when Mr. Chrétien mentioned Canada standing firm on its decision to NOT fight in bush's Iraq war.
* U2's Bono giving an introductory and truly moving speech "Pain in the ass" prior to the acclamation of the new Liberal leader and soon to be long term Prime Minister, Paul Martin.
* Mr. Martin's first words 'edge of historic possibility' as our new party chief, were, as expected, encouraging.
"We stand together on the edge of historic possibility -- at a moment that comes rarely in the life of a country," Mr. Martin said. "It is a time when destiny is ours to hold."

Juxtaposing the neighbourly nations is becoming more and more intriguing.
Canada, guided by the moral light of its public, content with balanced budgets, debt reduction, job stability, individual rights no matter the sex, gender or inclination to spliffing once in a while and most importantly international respect for such a small population of idealists, living next to a goliathan world power, drunk on its narcissistic ideology could have meant easy capitulation if it were not for the last decade of Mr. Chrétien's governing party. Paul Martin, a millionare from his family businesses and an extremely intelligent man, will carry the torch of Liberalism while he grooms our nation for a greater, even more responsible role in the world. Its a great time to be a Liberal in Canada and its sad that one can barely use that label in the USofA.

Having read a previous dailyKOS posting with poll results showing the KOSnik's median age, I felt this Sesame Street 35th anniversary article fitting for some light Saturday reading. It'll bring back childhood memories of the wonderful effect the show and its creators had on making education fun.
